May 5 is a very important day in Hispanic culture. It is celebrated annually to commemorate the Mexican Army's victory over the French Empire. Many think that Cinco de Mayo is Mexico's Independence Day but that is actually celebrated on September 16. My family is not of Mexican heritage so we will not be doing anything special to celebrate today, but I think anyone could and should. Cinco de Mayo is, and will always be an important day to many.
